Group of People with Seal
Seal hunting is a year round activity. In summer, Inuit hunters use kayaks; in the winter they hunt through a hole in the ice; in the spring, when the seals come up onto the ice, they capture seals by creeping up on them. While this carving does not depict a hunt, springtime seal hunting is likely what inspired Jeannie Shauk to portray a group of people congregating around a seal.
