Herd in Circle
This carving depicts a herd of muskoxen that has positioned itself in a circle. When herds are threatened by predatory animals such as wolves they arrange themselves in a circle, protecting the young in the middle, facing outward for their sharp horns to threaten those that threaten them. These defenses are not as effective with human hunters, but today there is legislation in place to restrict hunting to protect the muskox.
