Global Warming: Death of the Polar Bear
In 1992, Bill Nasogaluak became a full-time sculptor and painter in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. In 1994, the Government of the Northwest Territories gifted one of his sculptures to Prime Minister Jean Chrétien. In 1999, he led a team of two other artists for the creation of a new Ceremonial Mace for the Northwest Territories Legislature. He has completed several major commissions of inuksuit on behalf of the Government of Canada in Guatemala City, Guatemala, Monterrey, Mexico, Saltillo, Mexico, New Delhi, India and Lima, Peru, as well as an independent commission for an inuksuk in Osaka, Japan.
Many of this artist’s sculptures, drawings and paintings deal with the theme of climate change and this subject is powerfully expressed in this work.
