Mythological Bird
Davidialuk was one of the great Inuit storyteller-artists, who recounted legends passed down through the generations. This work, one of Davidialuk’s largest and most imposing, refers to the story of a village whose women, and then children, were transformed into gulls. Eventually the men, too, became gulls, which today are so plentiful and noisy. Like many Inuit myths, the story encompasses themes of transformation, loss, and the origins of life.
