Mosesie Kolola, one of the most prolific carvers from Kimmirut, learned to carve by watching his father. He preferred traditional themes, creating iglu scenes and depictions of mother and child in a natural style. This sculpture depicts a family cooking inside of an iglu. Iglus are often used as temporary housing during a hunting or fishing trip. Snow acts as an insulator and the structure protects the occupants from the harsh weather conditions such as strong winds
