Anoee, Eric

(1924–1989)

Eric Anoee Sr., CM (1924-1989) was a multidisciplinary artist, educator and hunter from the Kazan River Region, NU who later lived and worked in Arviat, NU. He was a noted carver, painter and writer. Anoee served as the director and the cultural Inuit Cultural Institute in Arviat and received the Order of Canada in 1982 for his contributions to Inuit art and culture. His work is held in the collections of the Winnipeg Art Gallery and Manitoba Museum in Winnipeg, MB, as well as the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver, BC.
