Woman Preparing Food
Women’s responsibility traditionally took place in the home. Johnassie Kavik’s carvings place the figure of a woman on a flat base. By physically defining the home area, he creates a fixed location in space. In Inuit art, figures of women at work are portrayed with a sense of dignity and presence which celebrates the everyday nature of the subject.
