Jaco Ishulutaq began carving when he was sixteen years old. He learned from his artistic mother, Elisapee Ishulutaq. Many of his carvings are based on stories told to him by his grandfather. Other carvings, such as this one, depict daily life. In this carving a woman is playing ‘imiklutaq’ or ‘imillutaq.’ A piece of wood attached by a double cord revolves between the hands making a humming noise
