Kuptana, Floyd

(b. 1964)

Floyd Kuptana was a prolific Toronto, ON-based artist from Paulatuk (Paulatuuq), NT, who worked in sculpture, painting and collage. He first learned to carve through apprenticing with family members and elder carvers. His work in soapstone often depicted themes of transformation in a playful, humorous manner. Kuptana's work has been exhibited in Canada and internationally, and is held in both private as well as public collections including the Cerny Inuit Collection in Bern, Switzerland and the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, ON.
