Nuna Parr was born near Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Nunavut in 1949. He lived with his adoptive parents, Parr and Eleeshushe, renowned graphic artists from the older generation. He began carving at a young age, carving animals by working with the grain of natural stones, and in particular he favoured the imagery of bears in expressive poses.
